El Mirage

First day of Coachella is officially over for me! No regrets, such a great place to be. Sadly for me, I don't do drunk/drink and other such stuff so the festival itself is not as enjoyable for me. The part I love is just the vibe and the community, fashion forward, free, and fun. I just love it. Let's me explore the inner free spirit in myself. The result? Outfits like these!

This outfit kinda reminds me of walking dead haha, which soon I'll be doing an outfit series for with Yoshi! I'll go more into detail about it later. Love you all!

At the Getty

I have so many posts to post it's not even funny. Well, I guess it could be funny if my life was a sitcom. Sadly my life is not a sitcom, but it may be one day....This outfit was taken sometime back in December when it was much colder at the Getty. Bethany took me to the Getty as one of the presents for the "12 days of Christmas". She told me wear something casual and warm, so here it is, basic basic basic.

My good friend Andy

Photos by: Nick Sutjongdro

The best thing about the cold weather is the freedom to pile on the warm clothes without worry of sweat or fatigue! It's especially true when it comes to the hot summers that SoCal experiences. So while it's still nice and cold, I decided to break out my old friend, the turtleneck.

I've realized a lot lately that turtlenecks are a sensitive subject when it comes to most people. They either love it or hate it, which I don't blame them for. Worn the wrong way and you can end up looking like the gnome in Andy Warhol's closet. Worn the right way, and you can find sophistication that teases the eyes of many onlookers. No style tips today, but next time around!

SK8ERBOI2 (style tips)

Photos by: Nick Sutjongdro                                    Plaid shirt by: Dr. Martens                              Hat by: PacSun

sk8 sk8, sk8 sk8! Here we go again guys! Yet ANOTHER skater look. I just can't help myself sometimes. When it comes to dressing up...I..........don't. Well, I do, but mainly on a day to day basis, I'm very basic. BUT I AIN'T A BASIC B**CH THO.

My main go-to when it comes to dressing down is obv, the skater look. Dressing like a skater is extremely simple, here are a couple short quick tips to help a brotha out incase....you don't know how to dress..cheap?...lol

Sk8er boi tips
1. Wear fitting jeans (not just for style and comfort but for utility. In the past, skaters wore baggy jeans, nowadays steez kids who skate wear skin tight jeans. Neither one is wrong, but when it comes to dressing stylish, what you want is to wear the right fit for your look, as I always say. Plus, if you skate in really skinny jeans it restricts your movement, and you might fumble on yourself if you're wearing extremely baggy jeans...so not sayin my way is the best......but.....yeah.................)
2. K.I.S.S. (the same way you passed[or failed] your S.A.T.s, keep it simple, stupid. There's no real strategy or approach to dressing like a skater [except for this guide, which is completely necessary] other than wearing things that are comfortable. i.e. shirts that aren't too small, jeans, etc. This means no fancy shmancy bowties or ties even, no suspenders, blazers. <---of course there are exceptions to every rule, but this just goes for the very basic skater look)
3. Keep your colors plain (saturation is as saturation does. Idk what relevance that quote served, but the point of it is, keep your colors plain and basic. None of that neon shake and glow, keep that stuff for when you're rolling/dropping...which none of you should be doing....I mean it......I'm watching you >_>)
4. Have fun with it (honestly, just have fun with it, try too hard and you'll look like a poser. Though....technically if you don't skate, you ARE a poser, but...O'WELLLLLL!)

Hope that helps, enjoy!

I am Man, hear me step stylish

Photos by: Bethany Struble                            Jacket by: Forever 21                           Shoes by: Fly London

When it comes to fashion blogs, I must say, women run that world. But is it so in style/fashion? Many seem to believe that fashion/style is a feminine trend. I believe they are wrong. The desire to look good to impress others can be seen in male birds throughout the world, but we are not birds. So what was the point of that whole spiel? Nothing, I like flashy male birds. Anyways, When it comes to style, you don't necessarily have to dress dandy or feminine in other to look stylish or fashionable. So here is a look I styled to give off a more masculine presence. well...not really, but it's in front of a tablesaw, that's pretty manly right? Well anyways, seeing as how I like to hear myself rant, here is yet ANOTHER styling tip!

Tips to dress more stylish in a masculine manner (plain/clean/basic)
1. Stray away from flowy things (try not to include these things in your outfit: scarfs [soft flowy ones, the blockier ones should be fine], long light cardigans, light colored denim [or any floral denim, or any printed denim for that matter], anything sheer, sheer shirts, sheer pants, skirts, bras)
2. Try to incorporate masculine pieces (Raw denim, leather jackets, solid colors)
3. Carry a barbel (the heavier, the better)

Hope that helped! And let me know how you guys like the new 2k13 layout. Follow my blog for more ridiculous styling tips!

PS. those of you interested in the jacket, It's just a plain raw denim jacket that I layered over a jacket with beige inner lining. I folded the end of the sleeve inside out to give a flash of beige :]

Layering Tips

Photos by: Nick Sutjongdro                         Jacket by: PacSun

Winter is finally here....sort of. Well it's been really cold lately, cold enough for me to wear this awesome jacket. In fact, it's sort of been my go-to jacket for the past month. So I wanted to also address the topic of layering. When it comes to layering, a lot of people just pile on the layers. Which is a terrible way to layer...well not really, you're technically still layering and keeping warm, but when you do, you're just an fashion onion.

Fash·ion on·ion

[fash-yuh n uhn-yuh n]
noun
1. A fashionisto/ta that has plenty of layers of clothes and zero layers of style. And also stinks.

But when it does come to layering, here are a couple tips to keep in mind.
1. Colors (Have coordinating colors, i.e. complements and other colors that go well together)
2. Details/Patterns (Floral dress shirt with a floral v-neck sweater doesn't make you dandy/dapper, it makes you look like a walking shrubbery, which....may be useful at times. but if you're gonna layer prints, most of the time, you'd wanna keep it to a minimum, with maybe just peeks of it to enhance the outfit)
3. Fit (idk how many times I emphasize this, but the fit/size of things really matter, don't wear an incredibly large cardigan with a tiny slim fitting leather jacket)

That's pretty much it that I can think of, I hope it helps! Now go out there and layer my cold stylers! And...hopefully you won't end up looking like a walking bush.

Skeleton Jack

Photos by: Nick Sutjongdro                               Headphones by: Skull Candy                        Jacket: Joon's closet

A while back I was gifted these amazing headphones by skull candy. Having previously worked at a Zumiez in my earlier years, I know just how coveted these bad boys were. But these headphones weren't just a fancy name, not only were they stylish, but also incredibly convenient. honestly tho, foam padding, big muffs. They're hater-proof. Not to mention they have a metal skull insignia on it, which makes it an instant must-have. The video is now in production for all those of you who are waiting...all....2 or 3 of you. Will be up around december, hopefully not that long but we'll see, maybe in a week or so. Preproduction, nahmmmsengggggggg?!

Slumlords

Jacket: Clothing Loves                     Shirt by: Levi's

Often times I'll tell a person, hey bro, don't wear clothes that are too matchy matchy, it's tacky. And often times it is, of course I'm the exception cause I'm awesome. Not really, but I did enjoy wearing this overly matchy outfit. Denim and black, one of my favorite combinations. Sports jackets are also one of my favorite things this season, if only I had more. Anyways I hope you're all having a great long weekend, those of you in the US! God bless the veteran friends out there.
